Over the weekend…

5:35 pm · Posted in Uncategorized

I had every intention of blogging over the weekend, but I didn’t have a chance. We were so busy, visiting relatives, going shopping, etc. Let me fill you in:

On Friday night, Josh and I went out on our date. We had a lot of fun, I finally got my new comfy tennis shoes that I’ve been wanting forever, and we both bought covers for our cell phones (even though I rarely use mine, heh, I wanted it to look pretty). :D We walked around the mall for a bit, burning off some calories we consumed at dinner (hey, that counts as exercise…right?) We got home at around 9:30, after picking up Dylan from my parents’, and went straight to bed.

Saturday we went to my mother-in-law’s for dinner. We usually play some sort of board game and just hang out, but this time we decided to go shoot some pool and go bowling. We had a blast! The guys (Josh and his stepdad) played pool, while his mom and I played air hockey. Ahh, there’s nothing like kicking your mother-in-law’s butt at a game of air hockey to take you back to your childhood. :) We had a group of 9 year olds cheering us on…it was actually pretty awkward to say the least, lol. The night ended with us bowling a couple of games, in which I kicked Josh’s ass (thank you, thank you.) It was during one of these games that I saw the unbelievable - at least it was to me. When it was my turn to bowl and I was getting my ball, I looked to my left and what did I see? The guy a couple of rows down from us was bowling WHILE talking on his cell phone! Wtf? At what point, as a society, did we get so dependent on technology (cellphones in particular) that we can’t unplug for an hour to spend time with someone? I’m not bashing cellphones - they’re great. Everyone has one for different reasons, but come on. Who could he have been talking to that was so important he couldn’t at least tell them to hold on for 30 fucking seconds so he could finish his turn? I just don’t get it. What would happen if tomorrow, every cell phone on the planet just disappeared? Or quit working? What would people honestly do? It’s a scary thought. The fact that some people are so dependent on the convenience of technology now, makes me wonder how we functioned before all these advances. Or if we could ever do it again, if it ever came to that. *sigh*

All in all, we had a great weekend. I just had to rant about that though for a second.

BTW, thanks to all my commenters!

Cash flow

Woooo! I made $60 today just for going with my dad to the recycling center. I love spending quality time like that with him, and he really enjoys Dylan and me going with him. Now that he is retired, he’s got a lot of time on his hands. If you knew my dad, you’d know that he’s not the kind of person to just sit around and do nothing. He’s worked his whole life, and he’s not about to stop now, even in his late 50’s! He goes around his property (and our community) looking for scrap metal to recycle. Since we live out in the country, a lot of people take advantage of the privacy and just dump stuff that they don’t want off into creek bottoms, ditches, and the like (I’ve even seen washing machines and abandoned cars). So, he goes in and cleans it up, and is able to profit a little bit from it as well. He’s always nice enough to split the money with whoever goes with him (sometimes my mom goes). Today he made $123.94 and I tried to tell him that he didn’t have to give me half, but he insisted. I really love my dad…he’s got a heart of gold. Anyhoo, I know $60 doesn’t go a long way nowadays, but I’m glad he let me have it. Tonight, Josh and I are going on a date, so it will come in handy! :D
