One of the perks of motherhood

Warning: if you have a weak stomach, I wouldn’t recommend reading this post. I must warn you, it is possibly TMI…
I. am. so. tired. right. now. :bored: None of us really got any sleep last night.
Everything was going fine last night - we ate dinner, watched a movie, and put Dylan to bed around 9 - just like always. At around midnight I hear him through the monitor moving around in his bed - which is unusual. Usually he’s out like a light until morning. This lasted for about 10 minutes. Finally he just bursts out screaming and I hear his footsteps on the floor running to his bedroom door. Well naturally we freaked! I jumped up and ran to his room, only to open the door and see that he had puked…all over everything. All over himself, his pillow, sheets, comforter, the carpet - everything. He was crying and screaming and trying to get his pajamas off, it was awful. :( I didn’t quite know where to start - all I knew was first I had to get him cleaned up - and quickly. Toddlers don’t tolerate being awake past midnight with an upset stomach very well, apparently. My first objective: get his shirt off without getting vomit on his face and in his hair. Believe me, it’s a little harder and a lot nastier than it sounds. After successfully stripping him down, we had to make our way to the bathroom. I cleaned him up with a washcloth and washed his hands, arms, chest, and mouth. I thought about attempting to brush his teeth to get out that horrible taste, but there was no way in hell he was going to deal with that at that moment. Finally, after he was cleaned up somehow I got him to calm down, got him dressed, and he sat in bed with Josh until I could get his room cleaned up…
Oh yeah. My second objective.
I had forgotten about the room. At that point the sight of puke didn’t even phase me anymore, so I just went in, snatched up the bedding, and stuffed it all in the washing machine with generous amounts of detergent and bleach. Since there was vomit on his bed and no time to really clean it up at that hour, we just decided to let him crash out in the living room on his Cars fold-out couch/bed thingy watching cartoons.
So, there we were at 1am awake, doing a load of laundry, and trying to comfort a slightly traumatized toddler. Luckily for us, he was ready to go back to sleep and after a drink of juice and lots of hugs, he fell fast asleep again. It wasn’t pretty, but it was one of those moments that made me realize just how much I love my son and how much, no matter how disgusting the situation, Josh and I will do to keep him from hurting and/or being upset.
It was also one of those moments that made me second guess and doubt every feeling I’ve ever had about having another one.
Now that’s a story you don’t read about in Parent’s magazine! :giggle:

amen to that. Our job as a parent is the hardest and most rewarding of all jobs
Aww, poor thing. It is one of my biggest fears that when I’m a parent I’ll be too scared to deal with these kinds of things. I have a very weak stomach to situations like these. But you’ve said it the best, parents will do anything for their kids because they love them so much and I’m confident I’ll feel the same way. That is such a sweet blog entry, despite all the speak of vomit. :)
Awww poor kiddo. Sounds like you handled the situation pretty well though =) So great job! Cheyenne’s had instances like that in the past, only she wasn’t big enough to get herself out of the mess. =X
Ohh no! Poor baby! I’m glad he is feeling better and got all cleaned up. I don’t have kids, but I used to be a babysitter for my nieces and nephews. My niece, when she was a toddler went through the same thing, so I had to do what you did, clean her up, clean her room, and make sure she would be ok by the time her parents got home. I feel you, and I know how it can be. But kids are wonderful and I often wish I had one of my own. Maybe someday. You both sound like wonderful parents. Very angelic. =)
awwwww…I feel for him. I hope he is feeling a lot better and I hope you and Josh got some sleep. Your such a good mommy and Josh is a good dad also. I knew you would always make a good mom. You did a good job with making sure that you didn’t get him any dirtier or anything. Take care Kristie.
wow. :( poor little guy. it’s really amazing how stuff that is usually “so gross” to us doesn’t even phase us when the situation calls for us to be the mommy, huh? i don’t have any kids but i’ve definitely been the mommy to my boyfriend when he’s been sick, and it’s like he could be puking on me & all i’d care about is whether or not he was feeling okay. lol !!!
great job being a good mommy ♥!
Awww, the poor little guy :(
Poor lil guy. It’s never fun being sick. You’re an awesome mommy and I’m sure you made him feel lots better.
cute layout & i adore the css. good job.
I remember doing that a few times as a child. That’s when the vet/dry vac comes in handy. Makes the clean-up process much easier.
Aww.. good thing you managed to calm him down.. :( that was a though job! :)
Btw, Nice site! love the layout!
Take Care!
-xoxo-
Wow, that must’ve been difficult to clean up, but it was a good thing you got him to calm down. I’m glad he’s alright, though :D
Aww poor baby!! I’m glad he’s feeling a bit better now though. Parenting is like that though. You and Josh did what you needed to do and were able to make him feel better. i’m glad you guys worked everything out and got him calm and comfy again.
Poor little guy! Hope he’s feeling better soon!
aww the poor kid. i hope he’s feeling much better. :) you guys were really quick on your feet. good job! some people aren’t that bright and would have went into panic mode. ;)
