I just wanted to pop in and let my readers know that I’m okay. I disappeared behind the Wordpress “maintenance mode” screen thinking that it would only take an hour or two to get up a new theme…wrong. Hours of hard work have been put into getting this theme just the way I want it, on top of trying to get everything validated, updating pages, pruning pointless categories…and this is all I can come up with? Eh…
I’ll be back soon with a real post, but now I need to clear my head and fill my stomach. Pizza is calling me from the kitchen…Mmmm.

Yesterday evening after dark, I heard a strange noise outside the back door. I opened the door to find that a medium sized possum was chowing down on some leftover cat food I had put out for the cat. Holy shit! It scared the hell out of me. As soon as it saw me, it hissed and snarled so I shut the door really quickly. Then I thought about the cat…possums can be really mean and are capable of killing the average house cat. So, I mustered up the courage to open the door and scare it away. It hobbled off the woods, and the cat resumed eating his food.
Same scenario tonight, only instead of a possum, there was a raccoon feasting on the cat food I had set out earlier. It was considerably bigger than the possum, had beady little eyes and fierce looking claws. The dogs had already got wind of him by the time I got to the back door to investigate, and had him pinned up next to the back doorsteps. He was not the happiest raccoon at this point, hissing and clawing at the dogs. I noticed a wound on the top of his head…probably from one of the dogs, so I knew this could be a potentially bad situation. Luckily, he mustered up the courage to run off the woods and the dogs took off like lighting right behind him. Meanwhile, Dylan was standing behind me taking it all in thinking it was the most amazing thing he’d ever seen. Afterward, after I made sure the cat was alright and the dogs had gotten distracted by something else, I had a brief talk with Dylan about wild animals and how you should never approach them or try to touch them at all - for any reason. Especially if they’re hurt. He agreed, telling me that the “Waccoon” looked really mean and that he didn’t want it to bite him. I told him he wouldn’t get bitten if he leaves wild animals alone. He was satisfied with that.
So in conclusion, furry, nocturnal woodland critters - I know you obviously LURVE cat food, but please stay out of my back yard! You’re cute and all from far away, but I’m not running a buffet restaurant around here. :)
What’s next…a skunk? Oh dear God, I hope not.
