Upgrading can be annoying

4:07 pm · Posted in General

Is it really February 5th? Or has March, April, and May already passed by without my knowledge? It’s currently 75°F outside. Yeah. Dylan and I are in sleeveless tops and all of the windows in the house are open and it’s STILL marginally hot in the house. WTF? I feel like I should be outside grilling hamburgers and hot dogs, taking a break every once in a while to lounge in the pool. Then I remember that it is, indeed, still February and that by tomorrow we should be expecting snow flurries. Gotta love the global warming, and the way it’s been messing with my head.

Apparently, the server (that my site is on) underwent an upgrade a couple of days ago, thus fucking up everything and putting me on the verge of having a panic attack. It was early Sunday morning (well…not too early, it was about 10 a.m.), and I lazily got up to check my email, just like I do almost every other morning. Still groggy from sleep, I couldn’t understand why Thunderbird was telling me it couldn’t connect to the server. I tried over and over, got frustrated, and visited my site to see what all the hullabaloo was about. SERVER CAN NOT BE FOUND threw itself right in my face. Immediately I contacted my host and submitted a support ticket, thinking that only my site was being affected by this disaster! It completely slipped my mind that servers actually need upgrading from time to time. Oops, silly me.

The Spam Karma 2 plugin I have installed on my blog also went ballistic, though I’m not sure if it had anything to do with the server upgrade or not - could’ve just been a coincidence. A handful of past comments have been deleted for some unknown reason, and I have no idea how to retrieve them - or if it’s even possible for that matter. I’ve noticed that some of Caitlin’s comments have fallen victim to this glitch, and I’m not happy about it at all! I would never voluntarily delete any of her comments. :( I hope all commenters from now on can do so without any problems.

Looking on the bright side though, Spam Karma seems to have been cutting my email spam by half of what I usually get in a day. Usually I’m looking at around 50 to 90 spam emails a day, and today I was delighted to find only 6 emails sitting in my inbox. I can only hope that it’s only catching spam, and not other emails of more importance. I guess we’ll find out.

Ach… sorry to hear about your server ordeal… upgrading is always a horrible feeling, you don’t know when one day, all your stuff would be gone… it’s best to just manually back up your stuff once in a while yourself.
At least your weather is a lot warmer than here… ^_^

Aw, I’m sorry to hear about that frustrating site crap. I have that plugin too but I haven’t had any problems. It must have been something to do with the upgrades of your server. Dont’ you love how they just upgrade without telling you, leaving you to go crazy?

Anyway, I know you would never delete my comments. Don’t worry about it. :)
