Time to play catch up

10:25 pm · Posted in General, Photos

Oh em eff gee…boy, has it been one HELL of a week. It all started last Tuesday, which started out being a really good day. Then, at around 8 pm, as Josh was pulling in our driveway, he ran over a deep hole which caused all of the interior lights to flash on and off all crazy-like. He pulled up to the house, switched the car off, attempted to start it up again and…nothing. There wasn’t a sound, there wasn’t a light…there was nothing. We stayed out until 10 pm wrapped up in our jackets toting flashlights until we finally just gave up on fixing it for the night. The next day, we called a towing company to come and get it. Great. In the meantime, while our car was in the shop, Josh had to borrow his step-mother’s car just to get to and from work.

A couple of days after that, one of the cooks at the restaurant where I work quit, leaving me and another co-worker to pick up the slack. I burned my hand in the toaster that same day, and developed a rash on the backs of my hands (dry winter skin? Probably). The next day, I woke up with excruciating neck and shoulder pain - instead of sleeping like a baby, apparently, I slept like a contortionist. Whatever. I had this pain at work last Friday night, and it still lingered uncomfortably through the following Saturday. Saturday night, Dylan and I came down with a cold. On Sunday, Josh came down with the same symptoms. Thankfully, things began getting a little better after that.

Until yesterday. Yesterday was the day we decided to finish up Dylan’s Christmas shopping. We went to Toys ‘R Us, thinking that it wouldn’t be as insanely crowded as, say, Wal-Mart or the Mall. It was a mad house! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many overzealous people shopping in one place. It was packed, it was hot, I was uncomfortable…it wasn’t a good day. We got his gifts and got the hell out of there. Our car also got fixed yesterday, after being in the shop for a week. That should have made things a little better, if it weren’t for how much it cost us to get it repaired. The computer chip in it, or the “brain box” as I’ve heard some people refer to it, went out and had to be replaced. A brand new one for our make and model car can cost $500+. Luckily, they cut us a break and found us a used one for half that. All was fine and dandy again, until today when Josh was driving to work. All of the lights came on again for no reason, just like they did the night that it broke down. Thankfully, they went off and the car hasn’t been acting funny since. So, most of the money we had saved for Christmas went to fixing the car and I’m hoping that this will be the end of our car problems for a while. Merry effing Christmas.

So, that’s what’s been going on with us, and why I haven’t blogged in forever and twelve years. However, it’s not all bad, I did get an early Christmas gift out of it. A super awesome Nintendo DS from my super awesome sexy husband. I’ve wanted one of these for so long! *drool*

So, those of you with DS’s, what are some of your favorite games? I’ve been playing Super Mario Brothers like crazy, and it’s so much fun, but soon I’m going to want a little variety.

Oh, Christmas tree…

8:07 pm · Posted in General, Photos

I hate Wal-Mart. It’s evil incarnate, and going there with it being so close to the holiday season, fries my nerves. Unfortunately, the boys and I had to get groceries and other household items yesterday evening, and living in such a small town, Wal-Mart is pretty much the only game in town. Where else can you buy food, medication, get a haircut, and get your car serviced all in one place? It’s utter insanity!

The place was packed, the parking lot - full. Elderly people were ambling along from every direction, walking down the aisles at least three deep. Oh, would you like to grab that can of soup? Too bad, a few old biddies were idly standing in my way, flapping their gums about Bengay and other old people products. Blah blah blah…I have shit to do, lady! Get the lead out of your ass!

Let’s not forget the few maniacal soccer moms that we unfortunately crossed paths with, who proceeded to rush and push passed us without uttering so much as a “excuse me, please” before speeding off, cell phone at ear. Oh no, God forbid I get in between Cooper and his Spiderman toys! Apparently, the entire world would’ve caved in if Mommy didn’t get Cooper his shit ass Christmas presents at that precise moment. Man, if she hadn’t pushed my cart away at that very moment…who knows what would’ve happened? People could’ve died.

The good news is that the garden/Christmas department wasn’t crowded at all, and we managed to snag a 6' Christmas tree for only $20. Not bad. And, despite being bum rushed by the elderly in the grocery department, we managed to pick up the ingredients for this:

Oh yes, that’s EXACTLY what it looks like. Vanilla ice cream in a waffle bowl, drizzled with chocolate syrup, nuts, and topped with a juicy maraschino cherry. Somehow, indulging in this right after last night’s dinner completely alleviated the stress and the uncontrollable shaking I get from going to Wal-Mart. If I had the choice, I would never go to Wal-Mart for any damned thing…but…they do have the lowest prices, after all. And the selection is almost unbeatable…I can moan and groan about it all I want, but I know that I’ll continue to shop there, for no other reason than the prices and the selection.

Ooh, I almost forgot! I also picked up a few scented candles, my most FAVORITEST things in the whole wide world! I have a pumpkin spice scented one burning right now, and oh, how it reminds me of Thanksgiving! I absolutely love this time of the year, and the holidays that come along with it. Just as long as I’m at least 10 miles away from the nearest Wal-Mart. ;)
